In-depth information on Bodywork

Cranial Sacral Therapy

Craniosacral therapy, was discovered by U.S. Osteopath Dr. John Upledger, in the 1970's. While working with the cranial rhythm, one is working with the core pulse of the body. Essentially, all physical, mental and emotional activity, is generated by the brain. This delicate organ is encased by the skull and protected by three layered membranes. The cerebrospinal fluid circulates throughout these membranes and down the spinal column. This self-contained hydraulic system cushions the brain from shock, in the same manner as the amniotic fluid in the uterus protects the unborn child.

The hydraulic movement, felt as a 6-12 second long wave, is generated by the rise and fall of the fluid pressure inside the skull. The skull is not solid, but is actually an interlocking system of moveable plates, to allow for expansion and contraction from the pressure changes from inside the skull. The slightest misalignment can interfere with the normal function of the underlying brain tissue and the bodily functions it is responsible for.

During cranial therapy, the practitioner reads the fascia and locates restrictions, tension, twisting and scar tissue, throughout the body. The fascia tells the practitioner what injuries the body has suffered, because it records events just like a cassette tape. Erasing this memory releases pressure/anxiety and restores free movement through the mind/body system.

A Craniosacral session will strengthen your body's core rhythm, raise your energy level, release buried stress, decrease anxiety and strengthen your immune system. Cranial work is deep, subtle and I think, rather magical. The results can be dramatic.

Craniosacral Therapy is effective in helping to relieve: headaches, migraines, insomnia, stress, infantile colic and vomiting, ADD, learning disabilities, autism, ADHD, chronic fatigue, traumatic injuries to head and spine, (including forceps delivery), motor-coordination impairments, chronic neck and back pain, scoliosis, emotional difficulties, TMJ, stress and tension-related problems, post traumatic stress disorder, orthopedic problems and more.
Craniosacral Therapy is the perfect tune up for you and your nervous system. Regular sessions will make a huge impact in your life.

Lymphatic Drainage

Lymphatic Drainage Technique (LDT) is a deeply subtle and gentle, hands on technique, designed to activate and cleanse the human fluid system, by using the fingers to stimulate its wave-like movements.
Its origins date back to the research of Frederic Millard (Canadian Osteopathic Physician 1922) and Emil Vodder (Danish Massage Practitioner and Philosopher 1932).
Dr Bruno Chikly's Award Winning Research (France), adds a newlevel of precision. Using exacting anatomical science and distinct manual processes, LDT enables the practitioner to actually detect the specific rhythm, direction, pace, depth and quality of the lymphatic flow. Thus the therapist can achieve profound outcomes in shorter periods of time.
The lymphatic system is a critical factor in our body's ability to detoxify and regenerate its tissues, filter out toxins, recover crucial substances that escape the blood, and maintain healthy function of our immune system.
The lymph vessels rely on the pumping action of hundreds of tiny muscular "hearts" that propel the lymph fluid and enable it to transport proteins, toxins, hormones, fatty acids and the T-cells and B-cells of the immune system.
Fatigue, stress, inactivity, emotional shock/trauma, cold temperatures, infections, swelling, age and chemical/food additives, can greatly hinder, or even stop the action of this crucial body system. Stagnation of the lymph circulation will significantly compromise cellular functioning due to the buildup of fluids, proteins, cells and toxins. This opens the doorway for physical ailments and hastens the aging process.

Myofascial Release and Unwinding

The fascial webbing in the body behaves very much like the shock absorbers in your car. It cushions the impact of a physical blow and distributes it throughout the body. This prevents the injury site from taking the full force of impact. The fascia is also like a music cassette tape. It records in layers, everything traumatic that we experience. The 'record' button clicks on when we are subjected to trauma, in either the physical or emotional realm. It then behaves like background noise or static and it interferes with the normal electrical communications of the body, which are minute in voltage. By energetically connecting into this tissue, it is possible to erase these obsolete recordings that are retained by the body and this is done through a process called myofascial release.

The fascia gracefully moves through the range of motion that was experienced during the injury. When the tissue realigns in the "injury position", the memory's energy is released and the tissue resumes its normal state of function. These releases are highly beneficial for the body. The cranial rhythm halts momentarily to readjust and reboot itself. Your mind calms, your body relaxes, healing energy is released at deep levels, and the immune system is strengthened. These releases are often felt as throbbing waves, or heat.

Even though a wound may have physically healed, if it is operating through a "state of injury", we are in pain, we loose range of motion, build scar tissue, feel tension, and the fascial tissue remains in a "state of shock". Recorded distortion from twists, sprains, blows, compression, surgery, breaks etc, can be erased. Limbs can lengthen, the spine can lengthen and straighten, bones can realign, normal range of motion can be restored and pain and tension can be effortlessly released.

Location and Release of Energy Cysts in the Body

An energy cyst is a parcel of energy taken into the body at the time of a forceful blow, as a bullet without a shell, has struck the body and been absorbed by the fascial layers. This leaves a compression memory in the fascia. Because the fascia is our body's shock absorber, it absorbs the blow and from that point onward, begins to emit a continuous electrical pulse from its center. Energy cysts create areas of tissue breakdown, as their electrical voltage short-circuits the body's communication to the area where it is situated. An energy cyst looks like the concentric rings that radiate outward when a pebble is dropped into a still pond. These arcs of electricity can be felt up to several feet away from the body. Dr. John Upledger (an osteopath) discovered this phenomenon.

When an injury site remains problematic and painful after apparent physical healing, the presence of an energy cyst is suspected. The depth and location of an energy cyst depends on force of the blow and the density of the tissue it strikes. The muscles may feel relaxed on the surface, while overall, the client has a tense vibration that cannot be released through traditional means. If left untreated, they will eventually turn into scar tissue, which must be physically and painfully broken down. An energy cyst less than 4 years old can be energetically and painlessly released. Reiki

In the Japanese language, the word Reiki stands for "Universal Life Energy", which in fact is the energy all around us. When the body's chakra (energy centers), are opened and attuned to the Reiki flow, many wonderful things take place. Reiki addresses healing in the body on the physical, mental and spiritual level. During a Reiki session the body's ability to heal itself is accelerated, while the mind and spirit are opened to the joys and potentials experienced from a state of balanced wellness.

Dr. Mikao Usui, a Japanese Christian Educator in the 1800's, responded to a challenge from his students to discover what was behind the healing ability of the great spiritual leaders of our history, including Jesus Christ. What was it about these beings that allowed them to touch and heal people? For 10 years Dr Usui studied scrolls and transcripts from Tibet, China and Japan. His healing system was based on ancient Sanskrit scrolls written on the Buddhist teachings.

The Usui system has been handed down for hundreds of years by Reiki Masters trained in the original traditions. The ability to channel and use The Reiki Energy, requires the practitioner's aura or energy body to be attuned by the Master. This attunement, programs the Reiki symbols into the energy field, so the energy "has your number" and thus is attracted to you. The energy flows into and through the practitioner, to be channeled at will for healing, by the laying on of hands.

The attunement is reverently performed in a series of 4 ceremonial acts. These are shared one on one by the Master with each student. The Reiki Energy is very subtle, warming, penetrating and powerful and when performed with loving and clear intention, allows for healing, opening, balancing, soothing, warming and clearing.

A Reiki Session takes approx 1.5 hrs during which the client relaxes and drifts to a place of healing serenity while experiencing the gentle touch of the hands that channel the Reiki. It is the perfect way to clear away life's toxic vibes from your personal space.

Intention of The Service:
· To open the energy meridians within the body and connect the mind, body and spirit
· To clear any energy blocks using the healing art of Reiki

Features and Benefits of the Service:
· Healing on a physical, mental and spiritual level
· Stress is dissolved
· A feeling of being balanced and grounded
· Excellent complement to massage

Somato-Emotional Release - The Upledger Institute

Somato-Emotional Release is a therapeutic process, which helps rid your mind and body of the residual effects of past injuries and negative experiences. During a treatment session, the therapist assists you to identify and re-experience an original injury that could be causing you pain and dysfunction. The Somato-Emotional Release concept was developed during a three year period (1977-1980 by Dr. Zvi Karni and Dr. John Upledger who were working together as researchers in the Department of Biomechanics at Michigan State University. Dr. Karni's and Dr. Upledger's joint research efforts led to the concept that physical force on your body, such as the result of an accident or injury, may be dealt with by your body in one of two ways:
1)Your injured body may immediately begin dissipating these forces and the natural healing process will follow, or
2)The physical forces imposed upon your body may be retained rather than dissipated.

If these forces are retained, your body must adapt to this deposit of abnormal physical force. The adaptive response is to isolate or "wall off" the abnormal force so that a sort of "energy cyst" is formed.
This "energy cyst" represents a localized area of increased particle activity, which is synonymous with increased entropy. This means that the ions and molecules are moving in a disorganized and chaotic way and are not performing usual work or serving the whole body efficiently.

We call the "energy cyst" an area of dysfunction because it inhibits normal body function. Your body must adapt to the localized, disorganized particle activity so that normal "body business" such as conduction of energy can be carried out. Body energy must detour around the "energy cyst". The dysfunctional area does not cooperate with vital fluid tissue and fluid motion.

A reasonably healthy body can adapt to and work around these "energy cysts". However, extra energy is required to carry out bodily function with area of disorganized and uncooperative activity in its midst. As the years pass, and the additional energy required for function is spent, the adaptive pattern of the body begins to lose some of its effectiveness. Symptoms and dysfunction's begin to appear which become more and more difficult to ignore and suppress.

The most powerful determining factor which causes "energy cysts" to form is your emotional status at the time of injury. If negative feelings are dominant at the time that the external injury forces are imposed, these forces will probably be retained and "energy cysts" will develop. Our research has shown that the people most likely to retain the effect of injuries and accidents are the victims who harbor anger, resentment, fear, etc. regarding the incident. Once these negative feelings are discovered and released, the bodily dysfunction, with its attendant symptoms, is free to leave.

Expected Results of Somato-Emotional Release Therapy:
The "energy cyst" must be dissipated, thus ridding the body of the need for adaptation and discomfort. During the therapeutic process of Somato-Emotional, the therapist acts a facilitator in cooperation with the part of you that wants to get rid of the abnormal" energy cyst" formation. In order to do this, the positive aspects of your body-mind are encouraged, the negative aspects discouraged.

The "energy cyst" is expressed from your body by facilitating your body's memory of the injury, this ending the suppression. This facilitation is accomplished by touching you, tuning into what your positive body would like to do. The usual result is that your body will assume the position it was in when the external forces were imposed upon it. As this occurs, the therapist can feel the tissues of your body relax as the "energy cyst" is expelled. This practitioner can also feel heat radiating from the areas which have been retaining injury forces, and frequently can sense a force leaving your body along the same direction line from which it entered.

The Somato-Emotional Release process requires extreme sensitivity on the part of the therapist and a positive attitude and trust from you. It is a very mystifying experience for both parities involved. It is very difficult to describe in words, but once the release of an "energy cyst" has been experienced, it is clearly understood without need for verbal description.

During the session, the release of the "energy cyst" frequently results in a re-experiencing of physical and or emotional that was attendant with the original incident. This re-experiencing may occur immediately or within a few days following the session. The re-experiencing of the negative aspects of the original injury is a very good sign that the treatment has released part if not all, of the retained problems. When this type of reaction occurs, you should not try to suppress the pain and emotion, but concentrate on the memory and try to re-experience it, to the fullest extent possible. Once you are very familiar with the whole incident, the therapist works to eradicate the attendant destructive negativity and convert it to positive constructive energy.
